Snowdown Winter Festival in Durango

Going on its 43rd year, Snowdown Durango’s winter festival persists in promoting local businesses and tourism in Durango Colorado, in that order, for tens of thousands of participants. As has been typical for each year, Snowdown boasts well over 100 events for participants, which will all take place in downtown Durango. Yes, there will be some changes to comply with the recommendations from the health department due to COVID-19, but if we ever needed “A Little Cabin Fever Reliever,” now is the time!

The theme, A Magical Mystical Snowdown, will surely delight and inspire excellent props and costumes. The annual Snowdown Light Parade that the locals put on, attracts over 10,000 spectators to the streets of downtown Durango to take part in the fun. The light parade features amazing, theme-oriented light floats, performance art, and costumes about the theme.

The annually changing themes of Snowdown Durango make this five-day festival truly one of a kind. Snowdown originated in 1979 to bring locals together to help alleviate some of the long Colorado winter blues. It has since grown into one of the largest annual seasonal celebrations in Colorado, voted one of Outside Magazine’s top five winter carnivals in North America!

The Snowdown winter festival in Durango is planned and hosted each year by a non-profit committee and a board of nine directors. Many Durango businesses also get in on the fun and host their own events.
